FP, what about the double like Marvellous Mimi Anderson then? That way you get to run 145 miles away from London too ;-)

I ran it this year, Toks. It's on the Ridgeway, which isn't the kindest underfoot. There is a very tree-rooty bit and a lot of it is quite hard, so ankle-jarring, and it's rutted towards the end. Quite scenic, though. What I didn't like in the first half is that it gets very congested, with long, long, strings of runners running single file on narrow trails, which I tend to hate, especially on technical sections. A lot of people fell over, including me. It was a lot better when the 2 day people stopped. It's quite expensive but very well supported. The runners tend to be rather younger than you would find in a typical ultra.

Conversely I love running on the Ridgeway and think it's generally pretty benign underfoot - quite similar to NDW/SDW type of terrains Toks. All depends what you're used to/enjoy.

However I'd not do the RttS, but do the LDWA version in August if you can. But, again, that's down to my preference for cheaper, low-key single-stage events over multi-day, highly commercial ones. I think it does tend to attract the lad's mag, willy-waving, forgot-the-legs-day-gym-bunny types more than other ultras. Probably down to where they advertise

That said, I've got a friend who did RttS last year and enjoyed it.

BTW, I'm with Fenners on GUCR. Really doesn't appeal, especially when there are so many good, long (and longer) events that I want to do than I'll ever have time/money to do.

Love the pictures from your weekend in the Brecons, flanker. I have a soft spot for that area. Shame I never get to go to Cardiff due to work any more :(

Ndwdave - i got about 45 miles a.t.c.f from 55 covered. Can measure later i hope.

Had paired up at start with a previously unknown to me tri clubmate headed the same way and we made good progress until 40miles covered when his ankle got sore and we went from 13 to 20 min miles to 20-30 min miles getting 6 miles to the next mainline station en-route.

When solo again I felt ok and could push on, covered 7 miles to Stoke in 1h40 but my onwards options for getting home were all too close to call from memory re: last trains so I bailed there and headed home to probably return again and see if I can get 60+ as the crow flies - although not a given as different pace earlier might have seen me grind to a halt later on!

Awesome event, theres some great screenshots of all the trackers over time lapse on the Beyond Marathon facebook page.

Thanks for the report. 50+ miles unsupported is a good effort regardless . It sounds like a great race. Hopefully it will fit in with 2017 plans for me
