Good point Reccers - was a training ride crash in Boulder, and no car involved.
Does happen quite a lot though - heard it's a combination of impatient locals who usually have the quiet tropical town to themselves, and our typical Type A triathlete types who can't resist gunning it before they're out of town to a) show off and b) because their plan says 90% FTP after 5 mins and that's what they do rather than wait until out of town and roads are quiet.
Neither a) or b) can be compromised by things like waiting at red traffic lights/road junctions.
Not saying Don himself did this, but there is supposed to be a fair amount of friction out there.
