After your first IM you legs will be destroyed for a month (in my experience), only once you have done a few can you go again in a couple of weeks.

Do a half IM 3-4 weeks before wales!

Cheers, I figured that was probably the case.
Weymouth 2019 it is!
Still mulling my choices for the 1/2 prior to Wales.

The Scribbler
For those of you who are of the shorter persuasion, The British Age Group Sprint Distance Championships will be up north at Woodhorn Museum triathlon.

Can't praise this event enough. Local to me. Brilliant organisation and a fast, flat course.

I've never bothered the pointy end enough to get a view of drafting, but they have plenty of motorbike marshals out on the course and I don't think it's an issue.

Welcome Sweetie :-) Where about are you? the Cotswold Classic is Aug 3rd (?), though is flatter than a flat thing, so maybe not ideal Wales prep

Thanks Fraggle, I'm in south Wales - so cotswolds not too big a trek for me and that one is definitely on my radar. I would like to do a flat HIM to get a more respectable time - but as you say not ideal practice for Tenby! The alternative is a small, local, hilly one on the 29th July. Only about 100 enter it, so there's a good chance I might be last, but it's cheap as chips, just down the road and has some solid Welsh hills to practice on (typing that, I think I might have just talked myself into that one!)

Sweetie the Tenby Long Course weekend is a fine, fine thing in its own right and by far the best prep for IM Wales as you do the swim (FRi eve) and bike (Saturday) on the IM Routes. The Marathon on sunday is not the same course and probably to enable training to continue after the weekend it's probably best to do the half marathon option.

(You can do full long course, ie 2.4/112/26.2 as a single entry - but you can pick and mix and do short versions of each event on any day by entering events individually).

It's mid July, so a good 6 weeks to build any learning into the final training block after.

lcwwales.com

Put a nice middle distance like Cotswolds into that final 6 week block and job's a good 'un.

(I'm doing full long course :-))

Thanks TRO, I did LCW last year (well the 1/2 swim, 1/2 bike), so I know what I am letting myself in for as far as the bike course goes. I plan to do exactly as you suggest, full swim, full bike and 1/2 mara, I tend to be a bit injury prone in terms of running so I don't see any reason to go up to full mara distance before the IM itself.
It was glorious weather for LCW this year - but I take it if you are doing it next year I better pack my waterproofs! :-)

How TAF are new Hotel residents already aware of my, er, relationship with rain....

(I did the LCW in 2013. A summer of utter rancid filth weather-wise, February lasted until nearly June FFS, but there were 3 or 4 scorching, ferociously hot days right in the middle of it....the LCW weekend. People were dropping like flies on the marathon.)

Are you a Day Visitor Suet-Tea or can we anticipate a residency? Hopefully it’s the latter in which case I’ll organise a suitable room - and i cans tick your forthcoming events in the sidebar (or on the big Evernote plan if they are known but beyond the next few weeks).
