Will the fancy new graphite soles stop this kind of nonsense, or will I just get an ultra grippy sole that flaps around loose of the upper?

Between this and so many ripped uppers (I got less than 100 miles out of a pair of TrailTalons before they started to fall apart) I’ve sworn off inov-8. I never had an issue with the grip but the build quality has been poor for some time now. Maybe try and fix that instead.

I've just binned two pair of the original 212s both with over 1000 miles on. The uppers were only just starting to split along the odd seem but the soles were racing flats! During their lifetime I've binned several newer pairs because they've done just that ^^^

I now shoe goo my trailtalon 235s when new to give the fabric some strength. It seems to make them last 500-odd miles.

Anyone tried these new iRock things (or whatever they're called) as they seem to get some good feedback?

flanker: I don’t have iRocks but do have the XTRM and MAXx shoes from the same manufacturer. XTRM are slightly more cushioned - I used them for Lakes Sky Ultra and Ben Nevis Ultra and they were great, comfy and very grippy. MAXx are more of a trail shoe I guess. They’re expensive but I’d buy them again, no question. Probably pick up some iRocks next for shorter stuff.

OK, sounds promising, assuming they fit my feet. I don't like cushioning (inov-8 Bare Grips still the best fell shoe ever made!), so I'll look at the iRocks.

- the last pair I bought were from Northern Runner, DT. - depends what you're after.
Sportspersuit sometimes have Inov8s, but just checked and not at the moment.

SportsShoes.com has some prev year models in the £60-70 range, but a bit pot-luck on sizing (and it's pretty easy to find 10% discount codes for them too).

Sportshoes is what I’ve done in past. I’ve been okay on sizing previously and yes have 10% code ~ thanks both

I'm fairly sure I tried irocks in kong in Keswick and they fit like a precision fit inov8; in other words, too narrow for my feet.
