Walking down the garden this morning I caught a whiff of scent on the air - the winter-flowering honeysuckle is starting to do its stuff

Passed these on my runs yesterday and today. Thought they were curious with the grooves on the outside? |

I was thinking they could be grooved (or common) bonnet, Mycena sp., but they might just be common inkcap, Coprinopsis, or glistening inkcaps, Coprinellus.

Snowdrops and the odd crocus starting to make their presence felt at Ireton House, named after Cromwell's son-in-law who owned it. |

We seem to be quite behind this year.Last year on OH's birthday (20th Jan) I took a photo of our local patch of snowdrops which were fully out (and then covered in snow a few days later!) but this year they are only just starting to show colour. There are a few primroses out in the hedgerow but not many and none in our garden yet, which is most odd as we usually have a lovely display (they spread like mad!) I wonder if the garden ones have been nibbled by something Crocuses also nowhere in sight. Yet on FB someone posted a photo taken today of a little clump of daffodils in flower further up the hill - ours are weeks away from flowering. All very odd. |
