Now we are TALKING, "Suspicion" is one of my all-time faves!! Love The Originals
I'm proud to say I was there for their one and only UK appearance at the Manchester Ritz to celebrate Richard Searling's birthday, let me tell you - they are fecking brilliant live. Sadly, Freddie Gorman (the lead singer) has since died.
Swits' post reminded me of something: The picture below is from that night at the Manchester Ritz, it was featured in the opening few pages of Kev Roberts' dreadful "Northern Soul Top 500" book. My girlfriend at the time was just to my right, I guess this will have been during the early hours sometime .... Jimmy Conwell was also on that night but The Originals were a hard act to follow.
Just in case anyone is wondering (you were, weren't you?) Snake Davis and The Suspicions were their backing band that night. The played the full repertoire that night, including "Don't Stop Now", a track that was big on the Crossover scene for a while, even though it was actually a 60s recording.
OMG, "Don't Stop Now" comes in at about 25 minutes and I've literally got goose-bumps here, it was years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. What a privilege that was!
I thought I might indulge of my "other" passion for your entertainment
Feel free to post, but please do try and keep it soulful. No funk or ska please! I maintain an off-line list of all the tracks posted, if you would like a copy please feel free to fmail me.
