Odd that Ebony never broke through - warm, sensitive interpretation. By coincidence, I found this tune, by an artist unknown to me before. Bobby Paris - I Walked Away |

The other thing I've been listening to lately is a good amount of CalSoul, any Mayer Hawthorne fans out there? I'm sure there are Here's a remake he made of Chromeo's "When the Night Falls" and I think it's outstanding ..... give it a try |

Ah Steve, Bobby Paris. Blue-Eyed soul at it's best He actually had two or three that made it big on the northern scene, the others that come to mind are Pers-on-ally and Nightowl, you can imagine that last one being big I guess (it was) |

One of the tracks that Ebony covered was Yvonne Elliman's "Hello Stranger", I'm afraid it's nowhere as good as Yvonne's version though. |

The Mayer Hawthorne track starts out like a Steely Dan intro but soul soon supersedes jazz. Very cool. Thanks for the Bobby Paris tune. Full range of vocal skills in play. Yvonne Elliman worked with Eric Clapton, e.g. the 461 Ocean Boulevard album, and had a huge hit with The Gibbs Brother's 'If I Can't Have You', which I think is a belting track. Love the nod back to doo wop in the chorus of 'Hello Stranger'. |

From what I've read that bit of Steely Dan plagarism was acknowledged. I wondered if anyone would make the Yvonne Elliman/Saturday Night Fever connection. You're too smart by far S. |

The short explanation is that both 'Saturday Night Fever' and Clapton's post-addiction album are milestones in the course of my earlier years. Let me assure I was at at least one remove from both disco lizard and recovering junkie!
