Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Not a surprise about the marathon being cancelled - I thought they were locked into a contract for 3 years with the cross country.

At the end of the day great run are a profit orientated company so that’s what will be guiding decision - certainly provides insight into some of the event this year and lack lustre marketing.

It looked obvious from the start they were looking to dump it. Falling entry numbers, no real effort put into the event in years 2 and 3. Medals for some that were not even for the right place, garbage t-shirts, having event on same day as the biggest marathon on UK shores .....
Never did run my hometown marathon. Oh well.

I still think an autumn marathon would have been more suited - more smaller city marathons in autumn and not many Scottish options. I think the trouble also is trying to stage so many events on one day (presumably to maximise profit) - if they had just the marathon or just the half may have worked better??

If I remember correctly Birmingham great run marathon lasted one year? So now they have no marathons?

Be great if say the round table or such took this on and yes Lou maybe one or the other half/full and autumn. Maybe half in spring/summer and marathon in autumn!?
Ran well there is no reason it shouldn't work well.

I'm still glad I did my one and only marathon in Stirling last year as the medal was cracking and the route (mainly) was enjoyable
