I went to a Scrabble afternoon this week and one of the ladies had made Eccles cakes. Not sure I'd actually eaten one before, they reminded me of mince pies. They were so good that I ate 2.

The best ones I ever had were at a swanky hotel near Liverpool, I was there for a work conference. They were freshly made in the kitchen and so crisp and packed full of currants. Everyone was being professional and polite and I had 4.

no mince pies yet but have had Christmas pud cookies, which were very nice. And a Tesco Christmas cake, badged up as a fruit cake slice, because obviously you can’t call it a Christmas cake.
