Not at all coincidentally, Vella is the maiden name of the journalist murdered in Malta a as few years ago who was looking into government corruption and organised crime.

Indeed, TMW. 'Vella' results from a Google search range from a plant to a car repair group in Southport, as well as surname of Malta's current president.

Due to insomnia, I was just reading Den of Geeks summary of random LoD theories.

They brought up the recording Steve listened to ask who it was

To me it sounded like one of the senior police officers from the previous series's. I thought initially it was ACC Hilton aka Jamie MacDonald of the Caledonian mafia (one of only two characters carried over from the thick of it to in the loop btw), but I may have misheard.

They also think Chloe is DCI Gates' daughter.

I’ve read that it may be Nick Huntley’s solicitor, Jimmy Lakewell, L-a-k-e-w-e-l-l, he of the “ironside” and “dial down the Ian Paisley” put downs.

I have to admit I didn’t make the connection myself and assumed it was someone random.
