Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

After last year's disappointing effort, I spent a while in the garden centre studying the blurb on the back of the seed packets. Based on what I read I purchased Russian Giants. Started them off in pots in the greenhouse then planted out a few weeks ago. No special treatment apart from that - pure luck! :-)

Nice going AtC. I'm going out to have good chat with mine. Supposed to help I understand.

I also have Russian Giants, but I think I planted them too late and they are still in pots. 175cm so not too bad, but yours are nearly a metre taller! I think it does help to have them in the ground, my pots are big but I'm betting they are rootbound already.
Learning points for next year! Last year they all got eaten by snails, so I'm already doing better :)

And...at the allotment there's a self-sown one which is probably nearly 6 foot already, growing away near my raspberries...

I was wondering about your earlier photo when you said your sunflower was 3 foot tall! I figured you had a low fence and were kneeling down :)

I partly blogged about em today but here's a sunflower update ripped from there:
When this one flowers it’ll be our tallest:

Here I am for scale:

And we also have this baby one:

But also this red one!

Back from my hols and the person who promised to pop in to water, didn't. He called round earlier to say he'd come to water and hadn't been in as it had rained so much on Tuesday. Why do people not realise that rain does not go into pots! The sunflowers are all still growing and seem to have put a few inches on - I think I might beat Dave in this event, but not Alice or purps. :)
