Test Match Cricket , but you rolled a steel ball down a ramp towards the batsman, who was a weight on a pendulum that you swung by releasing the string.
This is the updated version of the game , ours was rectangular and there were only half a dozen fielders who could catch the ball bearing if it landed in the hole between their legs.

Loving the ingenuity of some of these games. Similar to the dice games, we came up with a scoring system using the random function on the calculator. First attempts regularly ended up at 500-3, but a few revisions later got a reasonable balance.

That filled the gap until Brian Lara cricket came out on the PC

I used to have a cricket game for the ZX Spectrum. Alan Borders Cricket or something.

You would bat well, get a good partnership going before an almighty collapse. It was just like real england tests

Has anyone else been bored enough to watch Howzat on Amazon Prime? The Kerry Packer story. It’s (unintentionally?) very funny with the grossly exaggerated characters of Packer, Tony Greig, Dennis Lillee, Richie Benaud etc. Every Aussie seemed to be a Paul Hogan caricature.

In between the laughter, I found it equally entertaining and it shows how Packer did actually contribute towards some progress in the game, such as women being allowed in member’s areas, decent pay for players, day/night games and the white ball.

I’ve just bought a bowling machine and net for NDWJr*. MrsNDW isn’t too pleased. We have a long narrow garden but she is worried about the windows. It is junior version so has lightweight balls.

* ok maybe I will have a good on it too

It claims a max speed of 90kph. I had a chat over the fence with my neighbour and he reckons 90kph is pretty lively - he played for the Surrey over 70s last year. I’ve offered him a go while his usual nets are out of action

Not cricket though it is ex-England and Kent's Robert Key demonstrating the dangers of garden practice :-) twitter.com
