Viewing it from this side it’s just a hole, don’t know if there’s anything the other side to make it a cat flap. I’m not entirely sure that cats would have the size or dexterity to operate the door on their own. They probably just stood there & shouted till one of their minions, like the Archbishop, opened it for them.

A note on the Latin:
custor = church servant; sacristan. custoribus is the dative case, so 'to' makes sense here.
catus = male cat. cato is again dative, so 'for the cat' might be the sense here.

[When we did a guided tour round Exeter cathedral we were told that the nursery rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock was inspired by the cats, the mice and the clock which is just nearby in the cathedral.]
