Sorry..but what is a great crested flycatcher? Not a European bird!! Nice to get Grey Wag in your garden Mrs jigs, never had one in mine and never likely to. Snow Bunting on BN is fab. Breeding? LBBGull nesting on my chimney stack- one chick died after falling into guttering but it's sibling has grown well. Parents doing what they usually do! Reed Warblers singing on running route still. |

I'd be happy with a lesser black backed gull on my roof. In my experience they seem to be less vicious parents than the herring gulls Right amongst it now, eight different attack sites on my run this morning and the main colony doesn't appear to be up to full attack speed yet. Unfortunately for my head it would appear to have been a really successful season for the gulls, loads of nests still with three live chicks |

That doesn't half sound like a euphemism Hanneke. Buzzard circling low over our house being dive bombed by 4 crows, always fun to watch. |

@steve45: yes, I am "over there" -- although from my p.o.v. of course I am "over here" >.< It's funny getting used to birds here, because there are old familiars, like sparrows and starlings (both a bit of a nuisance for regular birds here, taking up nesting space and food), and then names have been appropriated for other birds. I remember encountering my first American Robin without knowing that was its name: audubon.org "What's that beautiful bird?!" I wondered (It's the size of a double-decker bus! Ok, more like a Thrush) And then there is the American Gold Finch. Really Golden: (not the greatest pic because Rocco is a bit shy and it's taken through two layers of glass doors) Hummingbirds are the best. But I miss my European dawn chorus. Second summer I'm stuck here š¢ Hummie makes up for a lot but it's a lot on the shoulders of one tiny little bird! |
