If you've got room for a proper greenhouse (or even glasshouse!), proper plantings, veg beds etc, why not make use of that space?? Instead we get lawns manicured to within an inch of their lives. Which is terrible for the environment. Or ridiculous oversized chess boards.... I'll accept that most people would like some sort of lawn area in which to sit out in the sun, but that doesn't need to be 5 acres of grass....

But actually both of those houses seem to have pretty significant kitchen gardens - just not included in the estate agent photos because presumably they don't look too great in February.
