The SAL run shouldn't have happened. Poor show. Pretty sure he'll have had other shoes, they just wouldn't have been as fast.

There's no reason why they wouldn't have an advantage over spikes. Advantage over superspikes is another matter.

Someone replied to say he had only been running a year, first track race, etc
All a bit of a mess, but I suspect that tweet will get the word out to another chunk of track runners that the rule is there at least. Once a critical mass of people have seen it, I think the rest will quickly fall into line and it will be a non issue.

Some people minimise/downplay that VF have any noticeable effect at all. Despite all the lumps carved off all the world records in such a short period of time, and all the massive PBs that the vast majority of amateurs have achieved since using them.
It's a strange world.

I found the tweet and noticed someone had commented about the Midlands league.
Yes, there's definitely some self interest downplaying going on.

Interestingly an upcoming local race (not track) has specified "no carbon shoes" - I can see some old Zoom flys coming out for that with their plastic plates!

That's interesting, not a UKA race then?

More likely a misunderstanding of the rules.

Not UKA I think - a kind of handicap pursuit event.
