2 day training/recce weekend just done this weekend. Day one - Edale to Wessenden (and an overnight bivi) then day two, Wessenden to Hebden Bridge checkpoint. Good test of some equipment. Number one thing bought from this was that I need bigger boots. My toes took a battering on the descents. I realise it was hot but swollen feet are mentioned a lot in blogs, so I definitely need to go up at least half a size.

For seriously long stuff (say 100 miles or two days plus) finding shoes / boots that work for you is paramount. Don't forget to try different socks too

Yes - and Insoles. I have a fantastic local shop that are very knowledgeable and helpful. I can spend hours in there trying different combos.

I shall be lurking and watching. The full Spine Race is preposterous, or at least on the dark side of the boundary between what would kill me and what would make me stronger (though I was talking to someone who does a lot of volunteering around the event and his take was that it's mostly about attitude) but I have a little hovering germ of curiosity about the Spine Challenger.

Just doing the Challenger - it is certainly in the realms of feasibility, although the planning itself has been extraordinary.
One more weekend away testing kit on the route in November then its downhill all the way.
The next 3 months cannot go fast enough for me
