Thanks, Sigh :) From that, I can extract the information that as a 58 year old woman with no enhancement factors (wonder if I can ham up the "brought up in the west of Scotland" thing?) I would get half nothing per year for each £100,000 spent on an index-linked annuity and needn't bother with further enquiries.

Okay. Si's thing. £100k buys £5,440 at age 65.

Keeping the numbers super simple I'll assume a carkdate of 85, so for modelling purposes. I'm thinking out loud here, except I'm typing on Fetch rather than OneNote or writing in my daybook...

£100,000 buys £108,800 (= 5440 * 20)? Well that's nice.

Remodel backwards and the carkdate comes out at 83 (= (100000 / 5440) + 65)

So theoretically at age 60 with £150,000 a nuity would give me £6,522?

This all seems far too good to be true. I've missed something. Please to be telling me what it is?

I'm an ex problem drinker although A Medical Expert says this possibly doesn't make a tiddle nor a wink of difference when it comes to nuities.

If I was planning on buying an annuity I hope I'd have the foresight to let my doctor know at least a year beforehand that I was a smoker. I'd take the regular nagging to quit as reasonable payback for the extra few quid a year.
