Sigh
Nice Fizz! Glad the ESTA system is still easy to use. It was when Mr Ness and I used it but that was pre-Covid. I'd like to go back to the US some time.
The last time I went (2007), it was still a case of filling in forms on the flight over....

I had to fill in an immigration form for entry into Saudi once. I entered "Mormon" for my religion just for a laugh. No response. Glad I didn't go for "Jewish", although I was tempted.

I have a Dutch passport... It sure helps with whatever I decide to do when I retire. I am still thinking moving to Italy is key, as I then have enough surplus money to travel.

Last time I went to the US, I didn't have to do the ESTA on my Canadian passport. It made life easier as it got confused when I tried to do it with my UK passport but was born in Canada.
Hann, we're jealous. Unfortunately hubby's grandfather wasn't Irish, it was his great grandparents who were, so he couldn't get in that way! The joys of my doing his family tree in the dim and distant past. Easier than doing my own!

What sort of places do you stay, Pou and Macca?
A mixture of camping (a lot of camping in the USA as I was hiking), guest houses, hostels, airbnbs.
I really like a private room in a hostel, as you often get to meet really interesting people doing similar things.
Japan is 50% camping and 50% accommodation. I'm here for two months, hiking in Shikoku, which is a cheap area. I can only stay a long time as I keep costs down. My average daily spend here is about £30 a day. Whereas in Singapore it was closer to £200 a day (although that did include paying for my daughter).

Garfield: it was really hard as for many years I could not get settled status. Only 2 days before the deadline and it looked as if I would have to leave without being able to sell my house! But now I am glad I have that escape route! All a bit meh, considering I have been here nearly 30 years...

The ESTA process must have improved over the last couple of years. Took me 8 days to get approval when I last did it.
