Also excellent is "The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock" by TS Eliot too, I think Robert Webb did an excellent job of explaing why it's so good in his "My Life in verse" bbc.co.uk

That was rather good, thank you.

In my quest to learn more of The Waste Land I came across these witty limericks inspired by - and poking fun at - it written by Wendy Cope.

I.
In April one seldom feels cheerful;
Dry stones, sun and dust make me fearful;
Clairvoyantes distress me,
Commuters depress me–
Met Stetson and gave him an earful.

II.
She sat on a mighty fine chair,
Sparks flew as she tidied her hair;
She asks many question,
I make few suggestions–
Bad as Albert and Lil–what a pair!

III.
The Thames runs, bones rattle, rats creep;
Tiresias fancies a peep–
A typist is laid,
A record is played–
Wei la la. After this it gets deep.

IV.
A Phoenician named Phlebas forgot
About birds and his business–the lot,
Which is no surprise,
Since he’d met his demise
And been left in the ocean to rot.

V.

No water. Dry rocks and dry throats,
Then thunder, a shower of quotes
From the Sanskrit and Dante.
Da. Damyata. Shantih.
I hope you’ll make sense of the notes.

Perhaps you need to know the waste land a bit to get it.

It’s inspired me for the want of a better word to write a short Limerick this morning as it’s a friends wedding anniversary and lots of funny things happened at his wedding.

Will find some more Wendy Cope to read.

Here’s a poem about some of the many things I didn’t achieve this year.

It’s called ‘This was the year that was not the year’. t.co twitter.com
