My pool uses very little chlorine, if any - its USP is that it uses UV light, or something, to keep things healthy. I still think it's the pool water that's given me my persistent sore eye :-(

I don't think the pool I'm mostly at uses a lot of chlorine, the water doesn't taste as bad as tap water in Oxford, compared to the more local one, but going 3 x a week isn't doing a lot for my hair, of which I don't have much and it is getting a bit crunchy despite being washed every time. I have tried a hat before but it made my head hot! Maybe I need to try again.

Of the Boots stuff do you use the 3 in one for hair and body or the shampoo? My local store only has those, but it seems there's a conditioner too?

I use the 3in1 but I hate the smell and would be open to alternatives. I would love a chlorine free pool as I have to take antihistimes every day that I swim in ours :(

Best course of action is as Tomsmums says. I wet my hairprior to putting swim cap on, I use gym and swim shampoo and then Garnier dry/damage hair conditioner (the coconut one). I also use either the Garnier oil or Argon oil. I have really long and frizzy hair and those do the trick in keeping it in condition

I have ordered the Paul Mitchell and bought a swim cap today. Swimming later on. I may take my normal shampoo and conditioner rather than using the 3-in-one stuff I have been using.

On my blog LazyDaisy queried the distance. Just to clarify - the Thames path is about 150 miles long, from source to Teddington. I'm setting up for up to 210 miles which is the distance measured from the start (I think) to the London Stone, which is the 'end' of the Thames as it discharges into the sea according to a book I bought in the Oxfam shop. Stretch targets and all that.

Thanks for that, IM. I'll be lucky to get to Tower Bridge but I'll give it a go :-)

Well done icemaiden and solitudefairy . :)
I've given up on my hair now. It doesn't matter what brand I use I just can't do a thing with it !

Looking forward to swimming The Thames from source to sea.

I have tried the swim cap. It made my head feel slightly buoyant and stopped water getting in my ears. So with goggles on it almost feels like I'm not in the water at all, which was slightly weird. I used my normal Lush shampoo and conditioner today so at least my head smells nice.

I also did some more shopping today and ordered one of these proswimwear.co.uk to cover my operation scar on my left thigh and my evil veins on my right leg. What was I thinking!
