I don’t expect anyone to be perfect and maybe I’m being a bit harsh but it seems to me there’s quite some chutzpah in preaching about green credentials in an article that is specifically focussed on people taking a long haul flight for a running holiday.

Can anyone please post a link to this article about a running holiday? I’d love to read it. All I can see is an article about 2 elite runners, one a professional runner, travelling to take part in one of the hardest races in the world.

There were three runners mentioned, which one is a professional? They seem to be a vet, a running coach and a data scientist from what I can tell, who run (admittedly at a high level) as a hobby. In what sense wasn’t it a holiday? They did it because they wanted to, not because it was their job. I sometimes go on cycling tour, if I pedal hard enough is that not a holiday either?

I see your point with JP, but the other two are sponsored athletes. They will get a benefit from their sponsors.

But I wouldn’t consider it a holiday. But if you’re into that kind of thing and self destruction and consider putting yourself through stuff like that a holiday then that’s your own personal choice. Who am I to question it?

At the end of the day, you don’t like what they are saying, you think it’s hypocritical. That’s fair enough, I can see the hypocrisy in what they were saying/ doing. But they are trying to get a good message out. What’s wrong with that?

Interesting! I do my best but accept that it's not enough (eg happy to wear charity shop/Vinted clothing, walk rather than car where I can but do eat meat ... worked on livestock farm, so maybe see things from a different angle 🤔). My pet peeve is parkrun! The number of people I know who travel miles to run at different venues is something I personally struggle to understand but each to their own 😉 And I've only been in an aeroplane twice in my life!

I’ve just been on the zoom Q&A arranged for this evening with Jasmin called ‘Breaking the Barkley’

Really interesting to listen to her and her advice about running and things to do with being a Green Runner too.

(As a member it was free - there’s more coming up with different Green Runners throughout the year…)

About This Thread

I’ve added a club for The Green Runners if there are any more folk out there who have taken the pledge and joined them.

I read Damian Hall’s ‘We Can’t Run Away From This’ in 2022 and since then have been changing my approach to kit and use of stuff in general across all areas of life. I’ve always been a big ‘mender’ of things but actually seeing the stark numbers of waste and emissions for producing new kit is quite mind boggling.

It’s a good read and really shows how muc...
