Time for me to propose No. 20 of the FE Soulful 100: This was the first "proper" Northern Soul record that I ever bought, by that I mean one that wasn't a bootleg or a pressing. It cost the princely sum of £2.50 on Cameo and seemed to me a fortune at the time
I've got one of those examples of The Strange World of Northern Soul here: Here's a record with a funky backing (DT - you might enjoy) and I recall from my youth that this was absolutely huge at Wigan, very few records set the dancefloor alight like this one, an original copy on Maverick was a very rare item indeed. Personally I've always disliked it, but it's woven into the fabric of northern soul and I wondered how it would be received here .... you never hear it played nowadays. Probably because the dancers couldn't keep up with the beat!
Yeah. I think you have to view it in the context of a teenager smacked out of his/her brain on phet. The ingredients of a brilliant dancing record are all there.
You know something guys? I wish I'd never posted that Terrible Tom record - I was only testing the water Tell you what, here is an absolute stormer to make up for it - we've never had this one before, I hope you enjoy it as much as me:
I thought I might indulge of my "other" passion for your entertainment
Feel free to post, but please do try and keep it soulful. No funk or ska please! I maintain an off-line list of all the tracks posted, if you would like a copy please feel free to fmail me.
