Anyone done this? The Derbyshire Three Peaks Challenge is an attempt to climb the highest peaks in Derbyshire in 10 hours. Thee Derbyshire Three Peaks are Kinder Scout, Bleaklow Head and Higher Shelf Stones all connected by a 20.75 mile circular walk. highpeakadventure.co.uk A couple of (mad!) non running friends want to do this and I am up for it! Only I don't do heights!! eL Bee and vrap will confirm that I have been known to have a panic attack on the side of a "mountain" (aka hillock) so that's the challenge for me rather than the 21m or 10hr limit. My last hill event was Trailwalker in 2006!! I know we will all need to train for this too, and not just time on feet. Any input advice or experiences welcome!! |

Firstly those ‘Peaks’ aren’t peaks in any conventional sense. I don’t know the route but it is bound to cover some rough ground by road running standards and there’ll be definite opportunity to get lost, especially if the clag (fog and / or low cloud) is down. Making sure you know where you’re going and can navigate efficiently is key. Time on feet including some decent days out training will be key. On a good day the views will be stunning. The Peak is the world’s second most visited national park for a reason and not just because it has several cities within easy reach

apparently the one we have found is a guided walk so navigation is "optional if you want to learn!"

Potentially a great chance to learn I thought it was a challenge or race, not a guided event. Either way blisters are your enemy |

It's called a challenge as I guess most who do it aren't like us fine tuned athletes and therefore a challenge! Would trainers be ok? I'm thinking the issues would be time on feet and ankle strength stability (and legs) rather than cardio even for my friends |

I think a good friend of mine is leading a group as we speak, he posted a video on fb of them at 2.00 am on top of Scafell Pike, apparently it was a bit fresh!

Oh fab! I’m keen to do this but also keen to minimise cost! So little things like …. Am I ok in trainers or are boots a must? Thanks |

That may be a question to ask them EP - I don't know if you've been up there before but my memory is that there are a lot of peat bogs and it is very rough underfoot (I've not done this challenge though!), I would definitely want something with grip and my boots also give ankle support and help keep my feet dry if there are small streams (or very wet!)
