Found out this morning that Mark Hollis has died Frontman of one of my favourite bands Talk Talk, I was listening to one of their albums only last week. Even though he hasn't made much music in the last 20 years he's left a fantastic legacy. Sad that there isn't the chance he'll make any new stuff. RIP |

They were unfairly lumped in with the New Romantic movement and he was a much more talented songwriter than that.

Music that was beautiful and, to me, important. I admired the way he disappeared from view. Whilst I wanted more music from him, I was glad that he has left a near perfect body of work. Listened once again to Laughing Stock late last night and it made me sad for his family's loss but grateful for what he achieved.

Spirit of Eden/Laughing Stock are amazing, remember NME dissing Spirit of Eden in 1988 and being outraged, that was the beginning of the end for me and NME!

Saw this in my FB last night, about 9pm. Very sad. Hugely loved album as a kid - The Party's Over, It's My Life and the Colour of Spring were my era. I never got to Spirit of Eden though I've revisited it since and loved it too. And I'm going to try Laughing Stock and his solo album too. Does anyone know what cause of death was yet? 64 is very young. He had a family too - are they all grown? Very sad. |

I still haven't seen anything on cause of death. Anyone else?

Actually, I've just seen "Hollis’ former manager Keith Aspden confirmed that the iconic post-rock vocalist died following a short illness. " in Paste Music (don't know how reliable?) pastemagazine.com Short illness could be anything. Doesn't sound like cancer. Must have been something pretty acute? |
