Too Much Water
Windsor or Henley are fairly quick courses, there are a few hills, but down negates up.

Flatlander
Grunty Fen HM (Witchford, nr Ely) in September. Dead flat apart from 2 short rises onto low ridges. Does get exposed to the wind.

Marvellous stuff, thanks :-) I may well enter one of these myself also, think a few from my other club did Maidenhead and Windsor last year.

My husband complained that Windsor was hillier than Basingstoke. How about Poppy half in November (Bexhill). Bint says it's super-duper flat.

The one I sign up for solo needn't be flat, will be nice just to do a different race. For my mate though, I want to give him the best chance of cracking that time.

Bexhill pushing that 2 hour journey time, but onto the list it goes :-)

Poppy Half is good - four laps, but good and flat. I'm now considering Gosport, myself!

Grunty Fen gets VERY hot - and has very little tree cover, so if you're considering that one, bring French Foreign Legion kit...it's also lots of long straight country roads, so if you get bored easily - let's say it's a mental challenge as much as it is a physical one!

I'm still trying to pick 2 autumn HM. More to the west of that London, but my research has gone further afield. THis is my list of potentials in case of use!

7th Sept - Maidenhead (Chippenham, Scottish (6th) Maidenhead 2 lapper…might be dull…

14th Sept - Bacchus, Budapest, Truro, Cologne. Lake somewhereinwales. GruntyFen (Ely)
21st Sept - Bristol, Ipswich.
28th Sept - Windsor (hilly?) Ealing. Robin Hood.

5th Oct - Bournemouth / Lisbon , river Thames

12th Oct - Henley and Oxford HMs (good planning there someone) Swindon. Munich. Lake Garda 30k.

19th Oct - Eden project / Amsterdam / Majorca
26th Stroud Worksop…niagara falls…

I shall probably do Bristol and Oxford for financial reasons (they are nearer!) although the Nottingham one was recommended by a few people and I enjoyed Bournemouth last year (one silly big hill at 8 miles, walked it and still got a PB, rest flattish and scenic by the seaside) I want a decent break between them for recovery. Annoying how Henley and Oxford are the same day!

Just to add to the earlier comments: Pleshey - definitely NOT a PB course for me, though a very pleasant country route-there are a few gently hilly bits. St Neots - always a good fetchie-occasion and pretty flat, but you have to gain the elevation for that 3m downhill finish sometime.... Great Bentley my PB course and a great race though I am told it depends on the wind. I was lucky it was not windy the year I did it.V flat.
