Good thinking, yes. My plan for this week (which I've followed so far) is to cut back the mileage to no more than 20 miles max, but do a couple of days where I have a bit of speedwork, maybe half the amount I'd normally do in the session, and have a couple of rest days. This is partly based on what I did myself in the last week before 2 of my best runs in 2015, the HM I mentioned and a sub-60 10 miler. I think I went into both of them reasonably rested but not having lost speed. Perhaps as a result of the lack of tiredness, I was able to sustain a higher percentage of my HRmax throughout (92% in the case of the 10 miler). That's my theory, anyway...

What's the race? (Assuming you're tapeting for a race).

Best of luck with that! Duathlon is something I'd like to have a go at some time. I'm a decent enough runner for my age, and a fair-to-middling cyclist when I put a bit of training in - and you don't have to swim! I've done a couple of sprint triathlons, but I'm a useless swimmer.

Yeah, swimming's overrated. (Except when you're in water, of course, when it comes in handy).

Gobi, I hope you don't mind my asking, but...If you're running just 30 miles a week, primarily slow and easy (8 - 10 min/miles), and 10 of those are in one long slow run, you're doing something pretty remarkable with the rest of your running if you're managing to stay in 1:18-1:19 HM shape. What do you do for your non-easy running training? Given that you're competing at a high level in duathlon, would I be right in thinking that your cycling training contributes towards your running fitness? Although it's always said that the best training for running is running, I tend to assume that aerobic fitness gained from one discipline is still helpful for another, even if you're not working the same muscles.

I do nothing with my running beyond run easy. I rebel and sometimes run 7.3x pace except every so often I run a hard parkrun/10km or a half.
All my speedwork is on the bike.
Engine is an engine and I still have that. I would be faster if I did some speedwork running but not worth the risk.
All here on Fetch and on Power of 10
