We don't get it free, RF, but we are big enough to bully them into getting the server version. I have told the team about Power BI et cetera, but will they listen? No, they like their toys. Which is why they spend their days buggering about with Alteryx. |

Perhaps they have not realised they can get On-premises Power BI with SQL Server 2016? Power BI vs Tableau now - not much difference. Before that Power BI was held on MS Servers |

Oh, they know. I have it on my machine and they'll install it for anyone who asks. I can tell you what they're trying to do, though. They want to be able to put graphical data on the intranet in a form where people can click on it and reanalyse to taste. |

Yah mean dashboards? Can be done in Power BI + as SQL supports Natural Language Query searches folk can write sentences for their analysis if they want to!

Any possibility that Tableau is more user-friendly for a less numerate user group? I'm asking, because I can put pressure on them to stop wasting money if I have a good enough case. |

Glenn in my personal view - both PowerBi and Tableau work essentially the same. Tableau gained popularity because companies could keep their data and visualisations on premises despite the licencing and connection fees. Power BI had to be hosted on M'soft servers. But that has now changed since SQL 2016. However IT insist on keeping Tableau as it would mean more money to recreate the solutions in Power BI. Both have nice user interactive interfaces. Guess you'd have to find 2 consultants to do a play off to really see this. Finally found that the decision making execs like to have their data in Excel to play with in anyway they like hence Power Pivot / Power View / Power Query. The users who have to monitor stuff like Power BI. The deep data mining is better done in Analysis Server or download the Analysis tools for Excel. They have lots of statistical algorithms to help discover trends and co-relations. |

'ello... Still struggling trying to find the right DAX formula to calculate difference in price week on week. Table A Date code (week), Product code, price Date Table, Date code, Month, Year, Week commencing stored as date Previous date table [carbon copy of Date Table, but got the feeling that might be needed] Date code, Month, Year, Week commencing stored as date ALL I want to do, is take price from the week before away from the price now and highlight a cell in front spreadsheet based on the difference, Green if positive, red if negative. So I think I need a calculated column, but cant work out what it needs to calculate, must be looking for the same product code on another date code but no idea how to do that. Tried EARLIER, but it doesnt seem to do anything. [I have 17 different Table As by the way as product are sold in 17 places! so ideally wont have to recreate Table A] |

'ello. There are 40 chairs. Team A use 25 of them. Team B use 10. Team C also use 10. Express this '45 into 40 doesn't go' through the medium of a pie chart. Go on. You lot say you like a challenge. Go on. Off you go. |

Curly45's just made my head hurt. Suddenly showing 110% on a pie chart seems reasonable.
