Yep the most satisfactory route left is that he takes the PK test in the next couple of months, replicates the findings, the panel concurs and can clear him in time for the Giro (assuming that's still on his to do list).

Three days ago WADA clarified the salbutamol level in 2018, to be 800mg in any 12 hour period, so implicitly, in other words, a 1600mg dose (2 doses) total in 24 hours, should not make it possible to go over 1000mg in the urine:

I'd say they're getting ready to play hardball over this.

Think you're getting your units confused there Chris. The input volume of 1600micrograms inhaled is very different from the 1000nanograms per millilitre in urine.

Units confused, but same principle - the constrained input in, can only yield a certain max output...

Agreed Chris - though I would note that plenty of people have tried to draw direct correlations between the numbers involved which isn't helpful.

I've read the following:-

"It’s 1 microgram/ml. PER MILLILITRE.

If you injest 1600 micrograms and it all ends up in your 5l of blood (which it doesn’t, it’s much less) then the blood concentration will be 1600/5=320 microgram/litre = 320ng/ml plasma. (Edited for units)

As it goes through the kidney this concentrates in the urine, very roughly 2 fold, so you end up with 640 ng/ml, which we can round up to 1 microgram/ml.

Edit: so the 1microgram/ml is USUALLY generous.

The clearance and the ratio will be subject to huge individual variation, and be hugely affected by factors including kidney function and dehydration."

All gone quiet apart from Ms Harrington who chipped in yesterday on Froome. Talking about Froome being available for Worlds selection if situation is still not resolved!!!!!

Just about finished reading a biography of Brian o'Driscoll, the Irish international and Leinster player. Talks about taking a couple of Co-codamol and ibuprofen tablets before every rugby match, having a morphine injection 7 days before an important match, couple of other things. Don't recall anyone making any press comment or any mention of TUE, now if he were a cyclist...

Froome's defence is "it was my kidneys that went wrong"...

According to L'equipe, not known for their fullsome support of Froome!

"Malfunctioned" is an odd choice of words, sounds like somethings lost in translation. I just hope this isn't one of those defences which is predicated on the basis that something "might" happen medically, but it is impossible to prove if it does / did with him specifically.

I'm still glass half full and minded to believe that Froome is unambiguously clean, but the process needs to be resolved fairly soon.

Bardet saying Froome shouldn't be allowed in the TdF if not resolved. Surley this cannot drag on for that long !
