Apparently one can get ropeless skipping ropes - based on whirling balls on a short length of cord. Some have counters in the handles. Could be useful if you can already skip.

I took up skipping with a rope in lockdown as I had a skipping rope in the house. Best done on a flat even surface. There are YouTube videos that coach you on good technique. There was a thread with the links

Can't skip, two footed. I can sort of do a prancing like a pony one foot at a time sort of thing, but not the two feet at once little jump thing.

I'm doing it in the garden, but I think my "rope" might be rubbish. It was the only one I could find in Newcastle (Start Fitness; not renowned for high quality goods), and it is long, very light and unadjustable. And very crinkly. Wasn't expecting much for 3 quid, but even so...

I can’t skip 2 footed either!
I keep meaning to try again, I think my weight doesn’t help
I also think most new ropes are not rope!

Practise two footed jumps without the rope with your arms pretending to hold the rope until you get hang of it. You don’t need to get very high off ground.

I have a ropeless skipping rope, still in its box sat on a bookshelf. Have no idea where it came from - I might get it out tomorrow and give it a go

Skipping. That thing with a rope small girls used to do in the school playground. But also boxers. Or was that just Rocky?

Apparently it isn't called skipping these days, but "jumping rope". Sounds much more serious.

So, does anybody here skip / jump rope? Is it useful in any way? I am led to believe that it may improve my running over rocks (talus; another new word I have learned today), does this sound possible?
