It felt to me like Italy lost that through unforced errors rather than England winning it. Randall and Smith looked really sharp - so nice to have a 9 that doesn't take an age, and Smith is proving as good as we all hoped, and will only improve - but other than that I thought England were poor. And as for some of the substitutions....

Play like that against any other team and a losing bonus point is unlikely.

France/Ireland way out in front. England, Scotland, Wales very close and scrapping for 3rd to 5th. We probably have a higher ceiling but are more error prone and discipline still an issue - we matched Italy’s penalty count yesterday in a game won 33-0. There’s no excuse.

If Wales have emotion and discipline then the Twickenham game is 50:50. After that we’ll probably lose to Ireland and definitely lose to France, so need to beat Wales to avoid the dreaded 5th.

Most likely loss for France is probably Scotland, they don’t travel too well to Murrayfield and it has potential to be their brain fart game of the Championship.

Bring on the next round!

I don't see Scotland beating France, even at home. Too many errors, as is often the way with the expansive game that Scotland are encouraged to play under Townsend. It's often great to watch, unless you want your side to win! :-) G

Maggie Alphonsi has gone full Eddie. Picked a 6N ‘team of the weekend’ and at 6 went for….Nick Isiekwe. WTF?

I wouldn’t say Scotland are favourites, but they have a shot. It’s a high risk game they play but every once in a while things will stick, Finn Russell will try 2 or 3 pieces of magic and it’ll work out. If things do stick then it becomes an uncomfortably quick game for the huge French pack.

Wales will try a low risk % game based on Biggar and power runners against France and that has very little chance. England are too ragged, ill disciplined and will get overpowered by France.

So Scotland have the best chance of stopping their GS, IMO. Not a big chance, but more than E or W.

I'm not sure I fully agree. Sometimes rugby is a bit like Rock, paper, scissors in that certain styles struggle against others. France in recent years have tended to struggle with England and often seem to change their entire game.

Like last year France will want to physically compete with England and it might cost them. Dupont was appalling in last years game and got outplayed by Ben flipping Youngs and surely won't be as bad this year though which could make all the difference.

Nick Isiekwe was a nuisance to the Italians but he hasn't done anything to make him look like he's up to test rugby and picking him at 6 WTF? See also Invisible Charlie Ewels.

I still think England's big difference at Lock was Kruis. Apart from his post Lions blues he was key in that engine room. If I was Eddie I'd be trying to get him back to an English club ASAP.

Loved the Genge - George try. When your front row out- back the backs :-)

Also of note the speed with which Genge took control of the situation when Sebastian Negir was injured and got the medic on asap. Nice work.

South Africa in the 6 Nations? I see talk is increasing again.

It’s a no from me. Kills the rugby championship down South (which IMO should be expanded to bring in the Pacific nations) and they don’t belong - wrong side of the equator.

I’m all in favour of changes to the international calendar - more 3 test series please, rather than one off tests. Not sure I really follow this Nations league thing they’re proposing.

Having said that, my fiver is on the horse called ‘Sod all changes’….

About This Thread

Maintained by Dai Bank
OK been on walkabout but off we go on 5th Feb with Ireland v Wales.
Hopefully we will all be playing at the correct grounds and with more than a few spectators to cheer, sing, not make too much of an arse of themselves through too much of what makes them lose themselves.

Thread title has been changed so thanks for that whoever updated it.
