No Maz, we chose to stay home. Figured it would be busy enough without us. Planning to go next week, so maybe catch you then :-)

Anyone done the Rannoch Marathon? Thinking that 13 weeks might be enough to go from my current dilapidated state to some semblance of fitness.

Not done Rannoch, but have entered it this year. I wasn't sure how hilly it was, so went and cycled it a couple of months back - it felt pretty flat on the roadbike, but Fetch measured it at 399m elevation, so guess it it reasonably undulating. The hilliest bit is at the half way at the far end.

Probably not going to do it flat out, got Glen Ogle 33 three weeks later, so might just do it as a last long training run for that.

I plotted the route here fetcheveryone.com/route-1781170 and got 333m of climb (334 descent, start and finish slightly separate).

There appears to be a sharp climb fairly early; apart from that the main bumpiness is around halfway. Around km20 to before Rannoch Lodge there is a climb of 33m in 800m then a descent of 26m over 1200m; and then 11m up in 450m to the turn. A bit of rolling ground then a slightly sharper 18m over 400m. Map here fetcheveryone.com/routes-view.php?id=1781172

Nothing that severe or long, although it might not feel that hallway through a marathon. All that depends on the elevation data being accurate of course: on the first part there is a banking and slope by the road which might cause the elevation to be a little overstated, though the trend is correct. On the streetview, nothing looks that steep, although 4.5% doesn't really.
