Does anyone know if spikes are essential for cross country at Stirling Uni. I've realised when I got here I've left mine at home - so not sure whether I'll get away with my road shoes or need rush back home to get them (which is doable, but a waste of an hour).

Looking at a map of the course suggests road shoes won't be too problematic, but I don't know every part of the route.

I ran it in Inov8 Talon 212s last year and it was fine - but those are pretty grippy. It was a bit of a mud bath, so road shoes would have been a struggle last year.

Depends on how muddy it is this year I suppose, and how much grip your road shoes have

Thanks - they look similar to the shoes I left at home.

If it was fine in those, during a mud bath, I'm guessing my road shoes will be doable today (which doesn't look like a mudbath). I'm hardly challenging towards the front - and hopefully won't be counting for points anyway if enough of our club turn up, so I'll just live with my mistake.

How runnable is Dumyat, starting in Stirling or Bridge of Allan? Thinking about trying to run up it as part of my long run tomorrow or next Sunday.

Not done it myself, but there is a hill race up it every year, so must be "runnable" to some extent - heard it's pretty steep though, so may be some walking required.

Have a look in the Routes database, sure there will be some there that have gone up it.

Cheers. I had looked a few elevation profiles for it, but was more interested in what it's like underfoot. Only one way to find out I suppose...

Dumyat has a well defined path from the rough parking area on the Sheriffmuir road to the top (roughly due east). Dirt and rock, through the summer is has been dry. Very dry. I have seen people walking up with babies in slings and backpacks. May be the odd muddy patch further up if it rains (as is is set to tomorrow). Parking there would be cheating obviously :-p, so you can run up the gloomy glen from BoA or the Uni (exiting behind the Pathfoot or the chalets.)

If you come from the south ie Logie Kirk/ Stirling Uni, it's a bit of a scramble until you are out on the open hill. There is also a run round Dumyat - going past that car park to the stand of trees and bearing east on the Land Rover track: this comes out at the farms above Blairlogie.

idea In fact this route went up from the south (not to the summit) and back down to the parking - slightly approximate up as hand-plotted http://www.fetcheveryone.com/routes-view.php?id=1711637 - The water in the picture is Cockburn reservoir: it's a pleasant run round there as well and a nice downhill after with great views (weather permitting) out over BoA.

PS your 100 shirt is pining at Falkirk ;-) bunting

Cheers for that Dvorak. Plan was/is to run from one of the train stations and back, clocking around 14 miles but it's a bit windy so I'll give it a miss today! Hopefully try it next week! And I wish I had went to Falkirk yesterday instead of Perth! :)

I think I read somewhere ( can't remember where ) rumour that there would be a Portobello parkrun starting soon - anyone able to confirm ?

What's the route ? Just 2.5lk along the prom and back, or 2 or 3 laps of a shorter loop ?
