Ouchouch, the marathon market is booming. I don't recall Newport selling out last year, let alone 14 weeks prior? Top work on the 17, 12c sounds lovely!

Tr, shame about the hammy, hopefully just tight from weights as you suggest. My sciatica pain, emanating from my glute seems to be making a slight return.

Hopefully you got out, LMH?

My brother had a nightmare. In the end they had to just stop in the road. Eventually a snow plough came through and the snow turned to rain so they Eventually got home at 2am, having left ours at 8pm for what is a 1hr 45 drive!

Just back from the 20. Left it until midday so the slush etc could clear and temps rise to the forecast 9c. However, as soon as I got into the lanes, after 1m the temp seemed to plummet back to zero ish. It was possibly the least enjoyable run I have ever had! I've never been so cold and miserable and for so long!

8m easy into 5m at mara pace. My legs and feet were so cold and numb by this point I jus couldn't get them to respond easily. That was followed by 2m easy, 1m mp, 2m easy, 1m mp then 1m cd. My legs were red raw by finish, it really was a labour of love! It's done though so satisfaction levels are least high ftom grinding it out.

OO.. 12 degrees - luxury! 17m is a damn good outing, nicely done.

TR.. about 4 inches of snow fell overnight, it is raining now so slowly turning to slush. Sorry to hear you have another hammy issue after that 10m, I hope it's short lived.

DT19.. sounds like a character building 20m, congrats on toughing that one out. Your brother certainly had a bad travel experience, glad he got home OK.

We had to cancel our club 5m handicap race this morning. Trotted out 5.5m on the treadle, didn't want to risk another fall after recent bumps & niggles. 50m for the week.

Well stuck out DT19.

Careful TR.

I can definitely see the appeal of warm weather OuchOuch!

Race cancelling and treadie definitely the right choice today Wardi.

I ended up going in to work after receiving a plea for help whilst waiting for breakfast to digest. My first home visit made it obvious that a run wouldn't have happened anyway. Deadly underfoot. Lots of rain today has cleared much but not all of the snow and it's barely got above freezing all day so not sure what it will be like underfoot tomorrow. :-(

I stuck with a steady 7 today as I wasn't feeling amazing, and the odd patch of slush remaining after snow followed by heavy rain meant that I had to stay close to home doing repetitive flat loops. Still, as is almost always the case, I felt better for running than not.

It sounds like it was character building for those any further north. Fair play to DT19, and a good treddie call by Wardi.

Well done ouch, back into decent miles already

DT - well toughed out, one for the race day memory banks.

Wardi - I expected you to do the man thing and call 4 inches as 12 inches

LMH - sounds dangerous there

Jools - good one, I thought you'd have had a lot of snow too

Only Jan 5th and we've had some tough running days so far. I've copped gales, rain, beard icicles and gruesome wind chill already, good job it was early Jan so the motivation was high.

Well done everyone that got out today. It was bitterly cold here yesterday, very unusual for us. Woke up this morning thinking about the 18 miles I had planned to do and checked the temps at 09:00. it was 12c, same as OO. Just a tad under 18 miles with >1,000ft of vert. Was a bit of a grind today. Think it was due to a very poor night’s sleep. 51 miles for the week. That’s 3 consecutive decent mileage weeks on trot. Hopefully can continue like this until the wedding week we are away.

Tr , yes we've had snow today to start it and this evening monsoon level rain, wind and unseasonably warm. Tomorrow it's immediately back to very cold with sleet and colder again feels like.

Sounds like a good run, Gerard. Getting dome nice consistency in now. How come sleep was bad?

Well done on getting out, jools.

Sensible decision, Wardi.

Lmh, sounds like tge decision was made for you. Forecast here for next 5 days presents a right old mix of weather.

6 weeks of proper work starts tomorrow, though sessions this week are particularly light compared to last 2 or 3 weeks which from a coaching perspective is to accommodate the step up from mid 50s, which is where I've been last month, to mid 60s, is my guess.

Gym is going to be chaos tomorrow, hate January and February there. I do still struggle with the thought process of 'I'll go from absolutely zero to an unsustainable new me and 7 days a week, back to zero in 6 weeks'. It's a shame many folk won't take advice and listen to the PTs that tell them to build a habit that isn't a chore and which they can realistically sustain and build from in the long term.

Well done Gerard, money in the bank

DT - agreed, no doubt there are some weather beatings ahead.......agreed, folks need to make exercise part of their life and gym on the way to or way home from work, so they don't have to go out to it later which is unsustainable.

Tr, yes, when I wasn't quite as into it as I am now and my kids were very little and I was constantly tired with commuting as well, the worst thing I could do was pop home before gym/training class. My hit rate was 50/50 in getting back out. If I took kit and went straight there it was more 90%.

Now life is comparably easy with work from home, kids older and a higher workplace status/trust, so the challenges don't exist in same way.

Yes, I think it's going to be a winter of 'weather' based on last 2 months.

DT - I can’t put my finger on anything specific but I’ve had a poor week of sleep and it’s caught up on me. I’m just not a great sleeper generally, if I get 5 hours, that’s a good night. It’s not ideal. I never have been a gym goer but next week I’m signing up to this lovely spa facility that has a nice gym. It’s only £10 extra pm to have access to the gym, so I might give it a go. Have an intro this coming Saturday. They’ve got these machines which are known as a Milon circuit. Apparently, they adapt to the user and it’s supposed to be good for strength training. The spa is fab, lovely pool, large jacuzzi pool, ice bath, sauna, steam room, etc. it’s has a lovely relaxing area too and a nice garden area which is lovely in the summer.

Hi

Fetch has said us RW refugees can relocate here. I know there are existing sub3 and 3.15 threads, but the fetch threads seem to be for more infrequent posters. The RW threads are more of a daily diary.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm a M57 hanging on to sub3. I'm unattached harriers so like a place to talk a bit of running and find some inspiration and accountability.
