Anyone running with small kids?
I have a 7 year old who likes it.
Today we tried 5k and it went fine.
I guess slow and steady and keeping it fun and will keep him interested.

Any other experiences and tips?

parkrun to collect bands/tee shirts? But be prepared to walk if they want to, never push. Even if they don’t feel like it one week then miss it, or say you will volunteer instead.

A good tip, thanks.
Well i feel it works to push a little bit, with emphasis on "little" they are so proud afterwards when they don´t stop immediately when the feeling comes :)
Parkruns are a nice thing, but not as big in my part of the world, but i could definitely go there sometimes for the feeling. But its to far to do it every sunday.

We've used several permanent orienteering courses to add a bit of interest to a run.

You'll often find those little posts with red & white triangles in parks / around reservoirs. goorienteering.org.uk

That is a good one mushroom.
I actually took both my kids to orienteering a few times, andi was ok, but a little to much hassle with loads of kids and what not, and a lot standing in line before the actual "events" maybe i will take i up later on.
And i think we have more fun to do it our self, so i will look for some courses and maps that is out there :)

When my grandson started doing parkrun with me, he was always asking to walk so I would ask him to count to 50 and then when he got to 50 we would start running again. As he's getting older (11 now), I won't let him walk at all on the first lap and then I have to see him struggling (cruel grandma) before I let him walk and then we still do the counting otherwise he'd never get going again. He smashed his peebee at parkrun the other week and that included a couple of walk breaks.

Yes i think you have to push a little as well.
Especially now, since my 7 year old is just starting, and its mostly getting use to how the effort feels in the head.

Last night when we ran, i said a couple of times, try to breath whole breaths, are you ok and so on, cus it sounded hard for him. But then he said but dad im singing :)
So it wasnt so hard, i just thought so.

I i reccon i just have to keep familiarize him with the feeling of heavier breathing and working muscles, more than actually pushing him to getting stronger or more fit, as for now. Even though it will have that effect as well of course.

My boy rather enjoyed parkrun if it was kept leisurely, it was an opportunity for him to spend a bit of time in the company of his dad, but he got bored of the course after a while, so he'd only now do it if there was a new parkrun course to be run. He'd jog bits, run bits, and walk bits at his own pace.

He's 11 now and does his own sport instead. I'm thinking of seeing whether my daughter who is five fancies a bit of parkrun instead, although she now does parkour on a Saturday morning...

Lovely to see you all talking about running with the littlies. I'm hoping my grandson will want to come out with me. But he's not yet 3, so not expecting it any time soon! :-) G

I did try offering financial bonuses for a good time or race result after training with myself. In other words, that week's pocket money could have gone up or down depending on the running effort.
