I got a pair of these last year 32north.com and may be the same as Meglets. Great in compacted snow and ice but as others have said you still have to be careful! |

Meglet, what is the name of the ones you have? I'm curious as to how many of you are city / town runners? If these are shite on pavement / tarmac then I worry about the whole mile on ice, mile on snow, mile on tarmac... and repeat, that I had to do in 2009 & 2010. |

Looks like I need to improve my technique, Curly. At the moment I'm predicting a mild and wet December... |

I tried spikey things in town once. Nightmare. Unless you can guarantee miles of ice! Ditched them in favour of the inov8's I wear for off road muddy stuff. Much better and less terrifying when your foot accidentally hits a patch of Tarmac.

very minimal aqua shoes worked great on the ice for me, brilliant feel & feedback. Inov-8 x-talons in the deep snow (with paramo gaiters to keep calves toasty)

inov8 roclite or xtalon get my vote. Good off road and around town ice/snow the works.

I'm going to try my evoskins just to see what happens. Very cold feet, probably.

I used to use my Mudclaw fell shoes, the ones with the most aggressively studded sole... But last winter I got myself some Kathoola microspikes for more challengeing icey off road stiff, as I went A over T a few times... they are brilliant, easily fitted under my boots as well and provide grip even on the black ice on the 25% bit of road I need to get up to get to work Just take them off when you hit the tarmac or rocky ground without snow and/or ice covering I have proper Kathoola crampons as well, but they are really for seriously icey conditions... and although I have the felxible ones, made t be used with shoes with a flexible sole like a fell shoe, they aren't suitable for running in, whille the microspikes are |
