Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Well done lin50! A very sensible approach and perspective in the current weather. Sounds like a great goody-bag too!

Glad it worked out alright for you - have you also been in the wars with hamstring issues? I think when I was reading through the thread a number of pages back it was you that recommended Saucony Glides, which I currently have an order in on as they sounded like a perfect upgrade from my Brooks Adrenalines (I overpronate and also have a history of ankle and achilles issues).

Funky Chicken, I wore the Glide's yesterday when I smashed my season best 5km, 21:37.

Today, as on the trails, wore my NB Hierro v7.

I only get tight hamstrings when I run further than I'm trained.

Foolishly, before today, my longest run had been 15.37 miles and joint 3rd was 12.4 miles.

It is (in my guess) arrogance and ego. If I had trained sensibly I would have added 10%.

Congrats on the SB. Some of the reviews I'd read suggested Glides were ok for training but a bit more weighty for racing in, though it sounds like that's a bit debateable!

Having also piled on too many miles too soon lately and come to regret it, I agree it's easy to get carried away - I'd even written a list of rules for myself, with the 10% rule included, but then conveniently overlooked it when it didn't suit what I wanted to achieve.

Lin50 - I'm in awe of how fast you did the 10k using 30:30, sounded really good fun too.

Funky Chicken - the 10% rule is so hard! I'm dreadful for getting enthusiastic and then being everything or nothing. Trying really hard to plan a sensible progression.

Really enjoyed my run walk yesterday. Further than usual and just enjoying moving and just being outdoors. I just have the nagging feeling of not doing enough, but to be fair it's more likely the sense that my starting point isn't as fit as I'd like it to be. Which is just silly - I am where I am.

Totoro I’ve been ‘jeffing’ for a few years now so I know when I can push the pace, plus I’m a very fast walker!

My training runs are always slower than my ‘race pace’ though.

Always good to finish a race and see photos that don't catch me pulling faces or looking like I have the worst running form ever. You look very comfortable there, and enjoying it.

I've been advised today to take the rest of the week off to let the hamstring finish healing, so I hope to ease back in again from next Monday. Will likely continue with run/walking for most of my runs to start with but at some point will aim to run 30 mins without walk breaks and then take things from there.
