Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

@Ultracat, no, I don't think he acknowledges walking as an actual thing. Or any form of cross training apart from lifting heavy weights (which is the thing that got Paula her world record). And the training pace chart in the book doesn't include marathon times slower than 4:15, although if you go to the online calculator runelitebook.com you can put in slower times - it doesn't flinch at 8 hours.

The plant thing feels like a bit of a concession. The general feel of the book is, "Ideally, you shouldn't eat, but if you must eat, eat raw plants."

I've not read the book but my basic training template for a few years was six days a week of three runs around 60 mins, a long run around 90, a progressive run of about 7 miles for threshold, and 30-40 mins easy with 10 hill sprints of 10 secs so that sounds sensible. I raced XC and the range from 800-5000 with that.

I'm unlikely to get the book on Vrap's review though.

I was also lifting at least twice a week with the template above at least during the winter, maybe even three times at some points.

You'd probably enjoy at least some of the book, SPR, especially if you did eventually step up (ha!) to the marathon. This is not to say that you'd find it useful.

So there's about 20-30% good in there @Velociraptor? 😉

If it's on Kindle Unlimited, I'm sure they have trials every so often. Might have a look more at who the author is as his isn't a name I recognise.

Well, I managed to read it cover to cover, @SPR, and not entirely out of ghoulishness. And he does have the merit of not burbling on about stretching, though he's quite enthusiastic about the use of very cold water for purposes other than ingestion.

I just googled him and he's popped up on my YouTube feed at some point. I remember watching something he had about running technique which seemed decent but I feel like I was sceptical about him in general, although this is my default for the YouTube gurus so it's likely not personal as I can't remember anything specific.

I have purchased the book. So far I have read the introduction. Anyone else got the book and has it been a useful asset to your training.
