Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

the spreadsheets seem to work well for the 'xxx miles a year' groups and there's loads of peeps in those. can you work out how to link the group to the thread? I think there's a code at the top of the group page or something.

I like to know about training sessions too Karen - today i will probably do intervals of 1000m, 900m, 800m etc. with 30 secs rest inbetween. The first few are tough...actually having said that, they are all tough!

I'll give my local rowing club a plug too (Bradford) - bradfordrowing.co.uk
Great club on a pretty stretch of river near Saltaire & Salts Mill - they have good beginners courses and also a very active women's squad.

it looks so pretty there Karen! my dad (who doesn't live in the area) tried to find my rowing club online and came across yours and thought that's where i rowed. he was most disappointed when i showed him the actual site with the green metal boathouse 'shed'!!

It does look like a nice stretch of river to row on though, Hepburn, despite the metal shed!

it is, but it's not particularly straight once you get around the corner. so far I've been out in a 8, a double and a single. After doing a capsize drill (in the swimming pool) I've been allowed out in a fine single scull, which I love. What were you rowing in Karen?

right, am off to the gym to run and row. Wish i could go outside but it's still too snowy :(

Hepburn, I started off rowing in eights at university. I did row for the university team in my 4th year and we used to spend weekends rowing at Henley which was fabulous! A long time ago, 1992......

I had a four year break from rowing after university before I discovered that Bradford Rowing club existed near me so joined there. It was mainly sweepoar coxed fours but occasionally we used to get an eight together over winter. Used to do quite a few regettas and head races, very enjoyable!! I dabbled a bit with sculling and doubling back in 2006,but have never got to do a novice race...

Are you planning to race, Hepburn?

wow, impressive stuff Karen. I'm not sure about racing - I don't feel I've quite got the hang of it properly yet but maybe next year I'll feel differently.

I did the counting down intervals sesh at the gym...only I messed up the settings and didn't plan in the 30 secs rest, so this screwed up the timings. nevermind, i think i did 27 minutes overall along with 5 miles on the treadie and 20 mins bike. better than nothing I suppose.

i've got to think about my targets for next year soon and see what is challenging yet achievable :)

meant to say...I'm going to order one of these on payday
watersidesports.co.uk

I have a fair amount of nerve damage in my back after 3 bouts of shingles in the past 2 years and can experience quite a bit of pain rowing for prolonged periods. I usually sit on a folded up towel but my friend let me borrow his seat pad the other day and it was fab.

Same friend wants us to row a half-marathon distance on Christmas Eve. Any tips CE?
