Just to say, I had my first experience of freely available AI (Chat GPT integration into Microsoft Bing.com search) finding an answer that "normal" search reports did not. It was a quote, which was paraphrased by a music friend in Facebook. I wanted to know where it came from "leave your nine at home and bring your skills to the battle". Initial search results went in two directions - 1. military, from British Army and Trench Talk interest pages to The Art of War by Sun Tzu and Heraclitus, ancient Greek pre-Socratic philosopher and 2. music, a lyric from Jeru the Damaja a hip hop artist. Even though I tried modifying the search to ask for quotes, lyrics, meaning and changing to the "skillz" spelling and "9's" which are the music lyric, still no answer. Whereas, scrolling up on Bing.com automatically launched Chat, which yielded what I believe to be the correct answer: "The quote “leave your 9’s at home and bring your skillz to the battle” is a slang phrase that originated in the hip-hop community. It means that one should leave their weapons at home and rely on their skills to win a battle or competition. It is a metaphorical expression that emphasizes the importance of relying on one’s abilities and talents rather than external factors such as weapons or equipment. The number “9” in the quote refers to a 9mm handgun, which is a common weapon used in hip-hop culture1." So, more useful than "normal" search? ![]() |

Assuming it's not making it up... I still love that it thinks I won a particularly gruelling ultra in the US.

Absolutely RB - as I say, I cross checked it. Others might not and might be misled. However, as a tool for those who are discerning and critical users, it seems like it's becoming genuinely, everyday useful? I overheard a chat in the office with a colleague on the grad programme talking about using it to pad out or to start essays or work for college, though obviously checking and then filling in what they actually wanted to say. It's here and live already. ![]() |

And good example of it going completely wrong... I varied it from default to Precise and it went wrong. "I’m not sure about the origin of that quote. However, it seems to be a variation of the phrase “leave your 9 to 5 at home and bring your skills to the battle” which means that one should leave their mundane work behind and bring their best skills to the table when it comes to a challenge or competition. It is often used to encourage people to bring their best selves to a situation and to give their all." |

I'm currently marking some well-padded assignments - hopefully AI isn't sneaking in there. I've occasionally found uses for it - it's good for coming up with ideas for activities for tutorials, or planning out key things to cover in a presentation - but haven't tapped into it for a while. Might have another look.

As I say RB, being actively used by students and graduates (and possibly by corporate staff too - who'd notice among all the BS we write?!). Maybe use and AI powered AI detector?! ![]() gptzero.me |

I believe an AI detector is being used by the uni, but it all gets processed elsewhere so I don't have to be involved ![]() |

I use it for coding mostly, VBA, m-language, Dax and so on. It’s very helpful and time saving. And searching for errors and optimization in the code. It’s not always right, but it’s possible to have a “dialogue” to get the right answer eventually. Very helpful. |

It's amazing that one of the most useful places for AI is in writing code. Code writing code?! "Robots building robots? Now that's just stupid!" Detective Spooner from I, Robot (the film, not the original Heinlein book). Did anyone see the linked in video of the guy doing a whiteboard doodle of a simple web page to take a user's age and name input, then depending on age show either an adult or kid next page? It was amazing. Really 15 year old stuff, simple O grade level computing, but by AI? Wow! ![]() |
