Well I had to go back to the docs this morning as my face has now swollen up and as before the visible infection is clear, but I feel really dreadful now and can hardly move my head. Anyway, after much messing around because one doctor was sick I finally get to see someone and have more antibiotics (co-amoxiclav), more ear drops (ciloxan), another appointment on Thurs and a referral to the ENT on Friday hopefully.
I got told off by the docs for not making enough fuss the last time...I just don't know what else to do

Sorry this is dragging on Curly. I hope the new antibiotics have enough clout to sort this out.

Swollen and tender?
You could go to the a/e of a hospital that has an ENT department and try to get seen by the on-call dude, or in their clinic (if they have one running). You might have to be an arsey cow, and they might not appreciate somebody who has already been to their GP trying to get seen again in a/e, but swelling doesn't sound good and you are clearly not getting anywhere. Friday sounds a long time.
Was it swollen when you saw the GP?

I am loathed to go a & e as it is not an emergency!
Yes its visible and painful to the touch. Below the ear and into the neck. The ear lobe doesnt hurt much to pull on but the back of the ear is awful if you press there (she made me cry doing that!)

You are absolutely right of course, but that doesn't seem to stop any number of people rolling up to a/e. There are a number of ENT walk in clinics if you are in that London, but you will need a referral letter from a GP/A&E/walk in centre- you can't just attend.
Not really sure what to suggest. I am not sure that a fourth (?) course of oral antibiotics will help if the others didn't, and as HB says, they aren't indicated for otitis externa anyway. I really do think you need seeing by an ENT person, even if its just for your own peace of mind, it just seems a shame to wait when you are clearly in so much discomfort.

Well I am going to try calling my private health insurance now I think and see if they can organise anything a bit sooner...
The wait I think is so the antibiotics have time to kick in I guess.
I know about the walk in clinics, but yes obviously I need a referral for them and they wont give me an urgent one

Just an update for the three people reading this!
My ear is a lot better (less sore), but I am still "flushed" and the inside of my mouth on that side is still swollen and getting worse it would appear. I am back at the docs tomorrow for a check-up and will get them to have a look as I am having trouble swallowing on that side now. My neck is still stiff too.
It never ends it would appear! I am thinking about a short jog tomorrow, but it depends on how "flushed" I feel at the time.
