I am not good at being injured. Last time I hurt my achilles I ended up in hospital with burns on my ankle where I had managed to give myself some type of frostbite through excessive hot and cold treatment.

And now I am back there Played cricket on Sunday and after 6 overs of bowlins something went in my left knee. On the inside of the left knee, by which i mean the near side rather than actually inside. Couldnt bend it or anything. Rested up monday and tried runnig yesterday, completed the 11 k cicuit but hobbled most of the way. The pain in now same place, but also in my left achilles, and all the way up to the small of my back. Actually a bit worried. Any clues?

No, not running yet.. another 3 weeks or so but I am eager to try a little run/walk this weekend if the planned bike rides go well.

Not massively, it is certainly a little more swollen than the other, and is tender to touch. Also, I can feel something like a really tight string on the nearside part og my knee around the back. Would that be ligament, or are they inside the joint? I imagine if I can feel it it isnt snapped, which is what i did to my right knee a few years back

Hmmm, difficult to say, knees are tricky joints with lots going on in them. It does not sound good, but I would have to study the knee a bit more (not done that yet as part of my course) in order to give you (and myself!) more insight. It does have a tendency to swell up to enourmous proportions to protect its joint when something is wrong. You may have damaged a ligament... well, that is what it sounds like... rest for now and you may want to consider a visit to the physio?

Oh, and I will have a look at my books tonight, to see if that reveals anything useful for you.

I'm probably mad (you don't have to be mad to post here, but it helps) but I've decided to try and do the Malven half tomorrow with a painful left quad - been resting for a few days, but went out for a very slow jog this morning, and it hurts just as much as before. Every step jars it and the pain seems to spread out over my whole thigh and down into the top of my knee - got a support bandage and will do the ibuprofen tomorrow before the race, don't know what else I can do other than drop out, and I've got people sponsoring me so I just can't!

Don't know whether it's worse to drop out beforehand, or several miles into the race when I've had time to realise what a stupid idea it was ...

All sympathy and/or scolding gratefully received!
