Having increased mileage over the past few weeks I have pain in my right calf, midway down and to the outside of centre. It feels like someone has punched my leg. It's painful when I am sitting or standing still, but pain-free when I walk or run No visible swelling or bruising. Any ideas anyone??

KeepGoing!
Hi. I've been increasing the mileage and had a pain in my left calf, inside centre, about half way down. Felt like a bruise, like someone had kicked me.
I couldn't run on it properly. I rested it for 48 hrs. Was not sore walking. I showed it to a physio who said it wasn't calf strain and was likely to be a muscle in spasm, like a cramp. I've not been drinking enough. Also suggested I use compression socks So far, 2 runs with plenty of liquid and electrolites & the socks and I've had no trouble.

Thanks KG, that's a good thought about the compression socks. I have some that I have never worn! I will give them a go. Have now had a massage, lots of lactic acid build-up apparently, but nothing strained. It feels worse initially but am hopeful it will settle down
