Please someone advise me, i am going out of my mind here....! googling it doesnt help as i get so confused!!
i have been having some pain for a wee while post run, basically if i go flat down on my heel it hurts like b*ggery for a second, a sharp shooting pain, and then subsides with each subsequent step....
i have recently upped my miles a bit to half mara distance on the weekend, and now i am finding i have developed a worseningheel pain, and a groin/inner thigh pain alongside....
i am inclined to think the inner thigh pain is caused by compensating in some way for the heel thing, but i would welcome any input.....
i have never been a stretcher, but i acknowledge that it's got to make a difference when these 2 areas are as tight as a drum... so have been religiously stretching this week...
i am doing a hilly half this weekend, not racing, just plodding, and really beginning to worry if i ought not to... 2 miles plodding last night with my daughter hurt, so i am gonna rest all week and see how it feels on the day........

I had a similar thing going on with ankle pain - turned out it was all related to my sciatic nerve and tight glutes, hamstrings etc. Mine was a sharp pain as I started running and then it would hurt less. It could be the same but then again it is probably best to see a physio if possible. I now use a foam roller everyday if I run or not and stretch a lot

tknow i did have a pain in my bumcheek briefly, which could suggest sciatic thingy... but the bumcheek thing never amounted to anymore....

Try sitting on a tennis ball or using a foam roller - physio can be expensive, I am lucky and have an awesome physio check if your local running club can recommend anyone - it's worth it in the long run though - good luck

Maz, I went to Physio at Kippie Lodge, got a fab massage, ultrasound etc all very reasonable etc, worth it:) I would also second the teenis ball thingy and also putting your feet on a golf ball and rolling around- hurts but will do lots of good as well.

cabletow
What about insertional Achilles tendonitis, you need to be more specific where it hurts. A photo of you pointing to the tender bit would be helpful

I'm starstruck! it's Cabletow!
if i knew how i would, i will try and get that...
TBH the achilles thing has been longest running and i have been ok with that pain wise, but this new hip thing is new and more debilitating...
definitely sore today, and it is always most painful on the first step, subsequent steps hurt but less so, then not at all.... first one makes me proper wince...
