Achilless issues - advice on exploring other makes/brands of shoe?

I am sure mine will not be a popular answer among purists but I swear by heel cups...

They do not in any way address the underlying problem of tight achilles / calf but they do allow you to run with a higher heel-toe drop so you don't aggravate the problem either. (I've used them with great success for about a decade) *touches wood*

Perhaps use in combination with all the other advice above for best results....

Context - I'm a sporadic runner - mileage goes up and down - at present it's around 100miles a month, averaging 5k runs. I'm a heavy runner - currently 102kg.
