Well, Farnie, I've only swum in the Dee out of those you mention, but you can drown in 7ft of water, so it doesn't make too much difference, only mentally.
I read Uniqua has already shared with you the story of my first (and to date only) tri, where I hadn't practiced in open water, thought I would be fine, and decided to wait until I was in front of a few hundred spectators to find out I wasn't  I still wake up feeling embarressed thinking about it!
So's not to repeat the experience, I spent lots of last summer in the Dee and Hatchmere, and got to the point that I was really gutted when I had to stop in the Autumn and go back to the swimming pool (and spend £3.30 a go!)

They are definitely part of sweatshop it says so on their website and they have sweatshop bags behind the till. I've not had a bad experience with the staff

Actually - statistically - most ppl drown at home rather than on OW, and you only need about a depth of 5cm/2inches!
