Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Mrs Jigs (Luverlylegs)
My number remains in the unopened envelope as I have had to pull out. After New York marathon I walked 5 miles back to the hotel as I couldn't find Jigs, I think it did me more good than harm :-)

WildeRover, I definitely think the walk beats the queue. I had the misfortune to be stuck in the 2 hour baggage queue after the Manchester marathon in 2016, that was seriously unpleasant. By contrast, after Abingdon last year, I think the 2.5 mile walk back to Radley station did me the world of good, as my legs felt pretty good by the time we got back to Cardiff.

Everyone ready for this? I had a bit of a wake up call in a marathon 10 days ago and found I wasn't as fit as I'd hoped.

I'm aiming for 4:10 now, which is 9:30 miling.

Hope the goody bag isn't too heavy because I've got to run home afterwards.

Ok so the park and ride queue was a shocker but they sorted it... and they promised flat and delivered. Not particularly inspiring but pb for sure. They said 71% pb (including me). Water stations need work. I am likely to return but not much scope for growth I wouldn't have thought? Anyone else got any thoughts?

Found myself tired and then getting cold during this one. 4:29 is one of my slowest times ever.

Ran to the start from home and arrived in good time at 0857 only to have the additional 30-minute wait. They would need to sort that out.

Event seemed well organised. Quite a number of mile markers were missing but I generally spotted the chalk marks on the ground so OK. Very good T-shirt.

i was impressed with the level of crowd support, like a city marathon in places. (Oops, it was a city marathon ...)

Now moved to 5 May which I am unlikely to be free for (I prefer the event I have just come home from this weekend).

T Rex, I agree the half hour wait at the start was annoying (and I was freezing at the start and for the last 3 miles), but I’m sure they will sort the park and ride situation for next year. Preferred being cold to cooking at London the week before though!

I thought I saw all the mile markers - certainly I don’t remember thinking there were any missing.

I really enjoyed it - I don’t tend to look much at the scenery when racing, and I liked the fact there was good support in places, but also some quieter spots where you could just get your head down and focus on your running.

Would have been a PB for me if I hadn’t had nearly a 5 minute wait at 18 miles for a vaguely useable toilet. Still my second-fastest marathon so can’t complain really.

Rearranged date for next year means I won’t be doing it sadly. Asides from clashing with other races, given how badly I run in the heat I was anxious enough that a late April marathon could be hot, not sure I’d want to take the chance on an early May one.

The later date next year is purely a London Marathon timing thing. London is later next year (on 28th April), Newport the week after again.

Ah, cheers WildeRover - someone from my club did say they’d probably moved London back a week, but I forgot to check!

Hi Welshpoppy I stayed in the student uni accommodation block, right next to the starting pens, in 2021. Basic but perfectly adequate and a dream to be able to wander to/from start finish areas pre/post race.

Oscar the Grouch of this parish has done the event a few times and may have suggestions?

Have a cracker👊
