Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

My kids used to use the phrase ‘you’re as weird as a beard’ which always made me laugh. I still sometimes use it

I blush to admit that I used to refer to a 'right on' teacher at school as the Beardy Weirdy.'

I was telling a former colleague last night about Mr Kitchen, a junior school teacher we had in the early 70’s, who had a beard. He wore tweed jackets and knit ties plus drove a Morris Traveller. Top bloke was Mr Kitchen

"Weird beard" or "weirdo beardo" was a common term for any bearded person when I was growing up from the late 70s, right through the 80s and 90s (the time when beards were rare and only Northerners and other outliers had moustaches. Any beardy was generally assumed to be a right-on teacher, a social worker, a Trot, a vegetarian, and quite probably a combination of one or more of these things.

I have replaced the batteries in the TV remote.

The old ones were flat, so it wasn't working.
