It looks like the Kayenta might be discontinued which will be disappointing. I still have a new pair and the pair on the left hand side still has life.

Sounds like Altra suits you if you were able to just change shoe on the fly.

My Kayenta were consigned to the bin after 360 miles with holes in them . I’m using Escalante as a recovery shoe only and won’t buy anything from Altra again. I’m still looking for a reasonable resilient marathon race shoe.

You can see that mine have no holes at all and both pairs still have life (I use the older pair for walking now). Must be the terrain you're running on or how you run/ land. jacdaw said he got well over 1000 from his so presumably his wear less than mine have.

Dunc, I've been running all my road marathons (and other road races) in trailtalon 235s for quite a few years. And my trail 100s.

They're a versatile shoe :-)

Altra Superior 5 arrived and they are short than my previous Altras so probably need to size up.

Trail talon were my first though when I thought about trail shoes so may have a look at the 235. They like they'd basically be an F-lite if the lugs disappeared.

Also going to try a Vivobarefoot insole in the Escalante 2.5 for a few runs. Feel like with the firmness, I need it to be thinner for now. Might change with use.

How do you get on with the Vivobarefoot insoles? For some reason they always end up slipping up and out of the shoe for me.

@PAJ - I have the same issue with the insoles. Easily fixed with a bit of double-sided carpet tape.
