I looked at the 3-Laender when I was out there in the Summer. It appeals quite nicely. There's a mountain one over St Anton as well, I think, which I fancy doing.

Cologne is a great marathon, Tizer. I did it back in 2008 when the start & finish were at the same place. They've now moved it to the Dom which makes it even better. The route is nice and flat, it gets a little desolate around 30ks for a bit but nothing major. There was tons of food at the finish too! Enjoy!

Right. I'm onto next Easter. It turns out that my wife has finally admitted getting envious about all my foreign travelling, so I've told her the easy way to not get envious is to come with me!
I know it's too early to call yet, but of the weeks when the Easter Holiday is next year, based on this year's races, are bookended by Rotterdam and VMLM.
Rotterdam holds a great deal of appeal, being an hour from Schiphol or a mini-cruise away, and shaped in such a way that my family (which by then will include a pushchair-user) can see me at various points of the course without too much transport required, but which also gives us lots to do the rest of the weekend because the expo is not out-of-the way. And if it's the same weekend as this year, it's the second day of the Easter Holiday, so I can have a week away.
The disadvantage of Rotterdam, however, is that I've done it before.
Now, I'm drawn to the east, and Bratislava looks like fun as well. How well would that meet my criteria? (obviously, I realise it's a long way from Schiphol, but I'm sure there must be flights to Vienna or Bratislava from somewhere in Northern England). Are there any others that normally fall in April that would be good to take the family to?

2 laps. Meets the "not too much hiking between viewpoints" criterion. Although I'd obviously prefer a single loop.

Flights from Doncaster, too, although I'm not sure if they're summer only. If not, I've got Nottingham or Leeds as options.

It looks like there's potentially three consecutive weekends in the same part of the world, then, with Linz, Bratislava and Vienna.
